Katie M. Blakley is a registered patent attorney who concentrates her practice on patent and trademark law, with an emphasis on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications in the mechanical, chemical, and medical arts. Ms. Blakley received her Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics, with an emphasis on Biomechanics, from Michigan State University, where she focused her senior research project on the investigation of polymer surface topographies in biomedical coating applications.
Prior to joining Mayback & Hoffman, Ms. Blakley worked as an associate attorney in a national Intellectual Property boutique firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She represented a range of clients, including academic institutions, large and small corporations, and individual clients. Ms. Blakley prepared and prosecuted patents for medical devices, chemical processes, nanotechnologies, x-ray optics, health and fitness equipment, and automotive parts and systems. In addition to her patent prosecution experience, Ms. Blakley has counseled clients on all aspects of intellectual property, including patentability, validity, and freedom to operate evaluations, trademark and copyright prosecution, and strategic intellectual property portfolio management. She has experience drafting licensing, technology know-how, non-disclosure, and e-commerce agreements. Ms. Blakley has also assisted in litigation matters involving patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret issues.
